Why PAYG Beats Data Pools

KeySIM is Pay As You Go (PAYG)

With KeySIM's transparent PAYG model, you pay only for what you actually use:

  • Monthly access fee charged only for active SIMs
  • Data billed per MB consumed by each SIM
  • SMS billed per message sent or received
  • Voice billed per second with no rounding

This means zero waste, zero penalties, and complete transparency — you're never locked into buying data you don't need or paying overage charges when you exceed arbitrary limits.

Traditional data pools often look flexible — until you do the maths.

With a pool, you either:

  • Pay for data you don't use, or
  • Pay overage penalties when you exceed your limit

Either way, the effective rate per MB ends up higher than straightforward PAYG.

Example 1 — unused data

A company buys a 1,000 GB pool at £3 per GB = £3,000. If they only use 700 GB:

Effective rate paid

£4.29 per GB

vs £3.00 quoted

Example 2 — overage penalties

Same pool, but 1,200 GB used. 200 GB overage at £5/GB adds £1,000 to the bill.

Effective rate paid

£3.33 per GB

vs £3.00 quoted

Example 3 — uneven usage across 100 SIMs

High usage (20 SIMs)

10 GB each → 200 GB

Moderate usage (50 SIMs)

4 GB each → 200 GB

Low usage (30 SIMs)

1 GB each → 30 GB

Total usage: 430 GB out of 500 GB pool. The problems with this arrangement:

  • You've paid for 70 GB of unused data
  • High-usage SIMs are constrained by the pool cap, risking service disruption
  • Low-usage SIMs are subsidising the high-usage ones — cost allocation is impossible
  • No flexibility until the next billing period if usage patterns change
With KeySIM PAYG, you only pay for what you actually consume.

No waste. No penalties. No cross-subsidisation. Just predictable, fair billing per SIM.
